En su primera exposición individual en México, Joanie Lemercier (Rennes, Francia, 1982) sumerge al espectador en un recorrido por distintos paisajes que nos transportan desde la contemplación de depuradas líneas abstractas y la fascinación provocada por majestuosas montañas virtuales generadas por computadora, hasta la preocupante realidad de una naturaleza sobreexplotada.

Pionero en el uso artístico del videomapping, Lemercier crea experiencias inmersivas que alteran nuestra percepción a través de la programación informática y el uso de aparatos audiovisuales sofisticados. Utilizando “la luz como medio, el espacio como lienzo”, el artista consigue convertir los proyectores en una fuente de luz capaz de transformar la apariencia de las cosas y hacernos cuestionar la concepción de la realidad.

Esta exposición aborda la importancia de la naturaleza y plantea una reflexión sobre la representación del medio natural a través de la tecnología. La primera parte de la muestra reúne distintos paisajes que hacen aflorar una paradoja: el intento de captar la belleza de la naturaleza recreada por medio de herramientas digitales. La segunda parte nos revela la representación fotográfica de una naturaleza repleta de cicatrices causadas por la sobreexplotación humana capturadas mediante de colosales imágenes tomadas con dron. En su conjunto, las obras de Lemercier buscan reactivar nuestra capacidad de ver el mundo y comprometernos con él, abandonando la ficción para enfrentarnos a la urgencia de salvaguardar nuestro entorno por medio de la acción.

In his first solo exhibition in Mexico, Joanie Lemercier (Rennes, France, 1982) immerses the viewer in a journey through different landscapes that transport us from the contemplation of refined abstract lines and the fascination caused by magnificent computer-generated mountains to the disturbing reality of an overexploited nature.

A pioneer in the artistic use of video mapping, Lemercier creates immersive experiences that alter our perception through data programming and the use of sophisticated audiovisual equipment. Utilizing “Light as a medium, space as a canvas,” the artist turns projectors into a light source capable of transforming the appearance of things and making us question our conception of reality.

This exhibition addresses the importance of nature and reflects on the representation of the natural environment through technology. The first part of the exhibition brings together different landscapes that reveal a particular paradox: the attempt to grasp nature through the use of digital tools. The second part of the exhibition reveals the reality of nature scarred by human overexploitation, captured through colossal images taken by drone. Together, Lemercier’s works aim to reawaken our ability to see the world and commit ourselves to it, abandoning fiction to confront us with the overwhelming urgency of safeguarding our environment through action.
